„Was machte Halberstadt so besonders? Im Gegensatz zu anderen Wettbewerben hatte ich das Gefühl, dass die Teilnehmer nicht von Musikern, sondern von der Öffentlichkeit beurteilt wurden, was deutlich macht, wie die John-Cage-Orgel-Stiftung die Mentalität der Einwohner prägt. Ich hatte von dem "verrückten" Orgelprojekt mit der Musik von John Cage gehört, aber erst bei meinem ersten Besuch (ich habe ein paar Mal am Wettbewerb teilgenommen...!) habe ich die transformative Kraft erlebt, die neue Musik an einem bestimmten Ort haben kann. Für mich ist die Stiftung ein perfektes Beispiel für musikalischen Ökologismus und Nachhaltigkeit. Ein Ort, um Positivismus zu erleben und die neuen Ideen unserer Kulturlandschaft zu feiern. Ich freue mich sehr darauf, wieder nach Halberstadt zu kommen.

What made Halberstadt so special? Unlike other competitions, I felt that participants were not judged by musicians, but by the public, highlighting how the John-Cage-Orgel-Stiftung is shaping the residents´ mindsets. I had heard about the “crazy”organ project with the music of John Cage, but it wasn't until my first visit (I entered the competition a few times..!) that I experienced the transformative power that new music can have in a particular place. For me, the foundation is a perfect example for musical ecologism and sustainability. A place to experience positivism and to celebrate the new ideas of our cultural landscape. Im very excited about coming back again to Halberstadt.“

„Halberstadt ... bedeutet Cage, Musik, Zeit, Freundschaft, Relation/Verhältnis, Philosophie, Theologie für mich: Musik im sehr modernen und gleichzeitig sehr alten Sinn. Halberstadt ist ein sonderbarer Platz zwischen Geschichte und Zukunft mit seiner mittelalterlichen Kirchen, der Dom mit seiner ehemaligen mittelalterlichen Orgel, die Klosterkirche mit der berühmten Cage-Orgel, wo die Zeit sich bis zur Grenzenlosigkeit ausgedehnt hat. Im Jahre 2014 habe ich an einem Orgelkurs mit Professor Hans-Ola Ericsson und einem Wettbewerb für zeitgenössische Orgelmusik teilgenommen, wo ich einen (geteilten) ersten Preis bekommen habe. Dieses Jahr habe ich mit meinen Studenten an der Franz-Liszt-Akademie in Budapest Organ²/ASLSP von John Cage aufgeführt. Dankbarkeit.

Halberstadt... for me it means Cage, music, time, friendship, relation, philosophy, theology: music in a very modern and in an antique sense at the same time. Halberstadt is a special place between past and future with churches from the middle ages, one of them used to house the famous Gothic organ, a cloister church with the famous Cage organ where time has been expanded into - almost - eternity. In 2014 I attended Hans-Ola Ericsson's organ masterclass and the competition for interpretation of contemporary organ music where I got the shared first prize in 2014. This year I have done Organ²/ASLSP by Cage together with my students at the Liszt Academy in Budapest. Thankfulness.“

"Es war der schönste Wettbewerb, den ich erlebt habe. Internationale Kolleginnen und Kollegen, u.a. aus den USA, Italien, Österreich, Japan und Deutschland haben unter der Leitung von Hans-Ola Ericsson in einem Meisterkurs an der Orgel im Halberstädter Dom nicht nur vieles gelernt, sondern haben ihre Meinungen und Ideen ausgetauscht und diskutiert. Es war besonders schön, dass wir uns nur mit zeitgenossischen Kompositionen für Orgel, die teilweise noch unbekannt sind, beschäftigen konnten und verschiedene Aspekte analysiert und sofort auf der Orgel gehört haben. Alle haben intensiv an der Musik gearbeitet und es herrschte immer eine kreative und inspirierende Atmosphäre. Es war eine richtig schöne Zeit in Halberstadt und ich würde mich sehr freuen, wieder die TeilnehmerInnen zu treffen

It was the most beautiful competition I have ever experienced. International colleagues from the USA, Italy, Austria, Japan and Germany, among others, not only learned a lot in a master class on the organ in Halberstadt Cathedral under the direction of Hans-Ola Ericsson, but also exchanged and discussed their opinions and ideas. It was particularly nice that we were only able to deal with contemporary compositions for organ, some of which are still unknown, and that we were able to analyze various aspects and hear them immediately on the organ. Everyone worked intensively on the music and there was always a creative and inspiring atmosphere. It was a really nice time in Halberstadt and I would be very happy to meet the participants again."
