The John Cage Workshop offers a full week of exceptional contemporary vocal music ecucation, led by Sarah Maria Sun and Christoph Ogiermann
The workshop takes place at the Cage House.

During this time, participants receive not only solo lessons, but also input in improvisation, movement and body awareness, lectures, vocal ensemble performance and basic knowledge of electronics and stage devices.

Since 2001 a very slow piece of music (duration: 639 years!) is being performed in Halberstadt.
It is an interpretation of ORGAN²/ASLSP – As SLow aS Possible – of the experimental american composer John Cage.
24/7, 365 days per year, sounds are resonating in the powerful atmosphere of the partially ruined medieval Burchardi Church.
It has now become a place of great attraction and is steeped in the openness associated with Cage.
We collaborate adding even more sound in this very especial atmosphere with this workshop, founded in 2008 by Ute Schalz
Electronic pieces, improvised or performative pieces
are very welcome!
APPLICATION DEADLINE: JULY 1, 2025
Active Participants: Fee per Participant: € 500,-
+ accomodation around € 60 person/night
(to be payed by the participants).
Recommendations will be given by our office after successful application.
-> All lessons included
-> Certificate of Participation
-> Final Concert participation
The concert will be recorded and you will be provided with the recording.
Passive Participants: Fee: € 100,-
+ accomodation around € 60,- per person/night
You’ll be invited as a passive participant to physical awareness and improvisation lessons, and as a listener to all the other lessons*
*Listenning to the individual lessons allowed after consent
of the active participant
